Farmer successfully drives Valtra tractor from Suolahti to Italy
05.03.2004Italian farmer Luca Capraro, who departed with a team of colleagues last Thursday from the Valtra factory in Suolahti, Finland, arrived successfully in Verona, Italy, on Wednesday 3 March. The epic journey by tractor took the team through Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany across the Alps to Italy.
Time for celebration
Capraro exchanged driving duties with his colleagues, who together drove the new Valtra tractor non-stop 24-hours a day. The team and their tractor were greeted in Verona with a special celebration held at the start of the local agricultural trade fair.
Luca Capraro’s new tractor is a 120-horsepower, four-cylinder Ecopower Valtra M120. The team of drivers complimented the Valtra, saying it was comfortable and easy to drive.
“The cabin is extremely comfortable and quiet. Even though there is a lot of technology in the cabin, all the controls were easy to use. The front suspension worked well and gave a very smooth ride,” said Capraro after his 3000-kilometre journey.
The tractor worked perfectly front start to finish. The team did not have to do any servicing, and they arrived at their destination ahead of time. “We were positively surprised by the low fuel consumption, which averaged around 10 litres an hour,” Capraro added.
The team received a lot of publicity along the way. In Verona they were greeted by television company RAI. After the Verona agricultural fair, Capraro will continue his journey by tractor to his organic farm in Cesiomaggiore. There the Valtra M120 will be used primarily for working the fields and contracting.
