Valtra makes major deal with the Road Service Lithuania

Valtra Inc., which is part of the Partek Group, has made an agreement for the delivery of Valtra Valmet tractors to the Road Service of Lithuania. The deal is worth FIM 5 million. Altogether, ten tractor brands took part in the competitive bidding. The tractors will be delivered to Lithuania in June and July, 1999.

The tractors are 6 cylinder and they will be used around the year for maintaining and cleaning Lithuania’s main roads, for tending ditch areas in the summer and snow work in the winter. The adaptability of the Valtra Valmet tractor to demanding conditions, the wide range of uses of the equipment, bi- directional manoeuvrability and the well-organized after-sales service were the decisive factors in the Road Service’s decision. Valtra tractors, which are tested in Nordic conditions, area also suited to Lithuanian conditions.

Valtra Inc. has been operating in Lithuania since 1993; tractors have been delivered to forestry companies as well as for agricultural use. Marketing director Arto Tiitinen says that the new deal will strengthen Valtra Valmet’s position of market leader in Lithuania as a tractor with a wide range of uses and also in the public-sanitation sector. Valtra Inc. is investing in conquering new export markets. Valtra Valmet tractors accounted for over 40% of the western tractors sold on the Baltic market. Suolahti tractor plant makes tractors to order, as a result of which the tractors can be fitted out with the special work needed, as has happened in this recent deal, too.

Valtra is the only tractor producer in the Nordic countries and the market leader. Valtra is the fifth-biggest producer in the western world. The company’s market share is growing rapidly in Europe and in South America Valtra is the second-biggest tractor brand. Last year Valtra produced 15,400 tractors. Valtra´s net sales in 1998 was FIM 3,5 billion and the number of personnel 2 400.
