Record number of SisuDiesel engines in 2002

Sisu Diesel Inc., located in Nokia, Finland, is part of KONE Materials Handling Group. Last year the company manufactured a total of 27,200 SisuDiesel engines, more than in any year previously. The increase over 2001 was 3000 engines, of which six-cylinder engines represented the largest share. Of the total number of engines produced, 4000 SisuDiesel engines were manufactured at VdB (Valtra do Brasil) in Brazil. Eicher engines manufactured under licence in India are not included in these figures. Direct exports represented over 50 percent of sales.
- Deliveries to all of our main customers increased last year. Our turnover also developed very favourably, increasing by over 10 percent, says Eero Tomi, President of Sisu Diesel.

Fortius Series introduced

The new Fortius engine series was introduced in late 2002 in connection with the factory’s 60th anniversary. The Fortius engine has an output range of over 100 horsepower and fulfils the emission level requirements set by EU Stage 2 and US Tier 2 legislation for off-road machinery. The Fortius is a very advanced engine that has been designed to satisfy even the most demanding customers, especially with regard to application characteristics. The engine is electronically controlled, increasing output and improving fuel economy.

SisuDiesel engines are used by many off-road machinery manufacturers, including Valtra, Lännen, Sampo Rosenlew, Kalmar, CNH Österreich, AGCO and Partek Forest (Valmet Forest Machinery).

Regarding spelling: the brand name is SisuDiesel (written together) and the company name is Sisu Diesel Inc. The engine name Valmet is a valuable part of the company’s history.

Other production

Sisu Diesel Inc. is the largest manufacturer of gearwheels in Finland, representing 9% of the company’s turnover. The third product line consists of generating sets, representing 6% of turnover. Over 45% of the factory’s entire production is exported.
