Valtra receives certificate for successful environmental programme
19.01.2001Valtra Inc. takes its responsibilities towards the environment very seriously and has designed an environmental programme in line with the ISO14001 standard. Det Norske Veritas evaluated the programme´s success and chairman, Hans Fagerström, issued Valtra Inc. with the Environmental Certificate on 20 December 2000. This certificate covers marketing, product development, production and after sales services in Suolahti and Jyväskylä.
Valtra´s targets in environmental issues have been practical and to achieve the programme’s aims waste treatment directives have been rewritten. The sorting of waste has been improved and the amount of material going to land-fill sites reduced. During 1999, the total amount of waste produced (kg/hp produced) was down by 17 per cent.
Recycling heat emissions has also reduced the use of energy and additional energy savings will be achieved by reducing heating levels in offices at night and during weekends.
Valtra has also investigated how environmentally friendly its products are. Together with VTT (a Finnish government supported technical research department), the company has studied product recycling potential. This study is based on a life cycle analysis of Valtra´s medium-sized HiTech 6550 tractor where the level of recyclability (excluding fuel and water) proved to be approximately 95 per cent, a figure higher than that of the most advanced automobiles.
