Harvest season is the most critical time of year for arable farmers. Every hour counts, and every decision can impact yield, quality, and profitability. Valtra tractors and smart farming technologies make harvesting vegetables and grass cutting not just easier—but smarter, faster, and more efficient.
Smarter farming with smarter (and easier to use) tractors
Valtra's tractors, such as the Q Series and 6th-generation S Series, are designed for high-performance harvesting operations. They are built at one of the world’s most sustainable tractor factories in Suolahti, Finland, and come with all the smart farming technology farmers need to improve their sustainability and efficiency. With features like Valtra Guide, SmartTouch, and Valtra Connect, farmers can automate tasks and make data-driven decisions in real time.
Take Valtra Guide, for example. This tractor autoguidance system reduces overlaps and skips, ensuring every pass is precise. With SmartTouch, all key functions are just two taps or swipes away—together, making the most intuitive tractor autoguidance system on the market.
Maximising the efficiency of your harvest
At the Swiss Future Farm, an AGCO collaborative research and demonstration farm in Tänikon, Switzerland, Valtra tractors are used to test smart farming technologies in real-world conditions. During harvest time, it is common for farmers and agricultural contractors to work long days, often even in shifts. Being able to manage and send tasks to the tractor easily greatly improves efficiency. The same applies to switching driver profiles between shifts. “Given that operators and tractors can change, data networking not only brings simplicity and convenience in performing our work, but we also save a lot of time, fuel and resources,” explains Raphael Bernet, deputy operations manager.
Valtra aims for ease of use across all our tractors and technologies, and it is important that operators can switch between tractors quickly and easily. Andrew Fletcher of Belmont Farming Limited in the UK also points out how operators value familiarity between platforms: “Two things I’ve seen today that really impressed me are the operators’ platform – The familiarity between the T Series and the Q Series is going to be excellent for our operators.”

Utilising Valtra’s integrated technology for a seamless harvest
Peter Vestergaard is responsible for field work at DanRoots, a carrot producer operating on 2900 hectares of farmland on the Jutland Peninsula in Denmark. Altogether, DanRoots operates 25 Valtra tractors in a complex operation. When it comes to harvest, Peter makes the best use of smart farming technology. “Auto-Guide is a vital part of our farming concept. We use complex harvesters that are automated to drive along the same waylines as the tractors. Valtra Guide allows our drivers to focus on controlling their implements rather than the tractor. Planning our waylines carefully enables us to utilise our fields and other resources as efficiently as possible."

Quicker, more efficient, and ergonomic high-value harvest with Valtra’s TwinTrac
In 2023, Valtra Spain teamed up with the University of Zaragoza in a joint field study testing the Valtra N Series with TwinTrac reverse drive system to harvest pistachios and almonds with a rear-mounted umbrella harvester. The study concluded that “harvesting almonds and pistachios was approximately 10% faster with TwinTrac than without it. Fuel consumption was just 8.21 litres per hour and AdBlue consumption 0.63 litres per hour.” Of course, the major benefit of using TwinTrac is driver ergonomics. Unsurprisingly, the study found that without TwinTrac, the driver needed to turn their head or trunk 95% of the time compared to 0% with TwinTrac, making the harvest significantly easier. What’s the worst that could happen to your harvest?
Climate change brings with it a considerable amount of uncertainty for farmers. In 2025, the dry weather in Spring has led to the earliest start to the grain harvest in the UK since 2006. This has then been compounded by summertime rain, causing lower yields and a pause in harvest for some. The unpredictability and variability of the harvest window place significant pressure on farm equipment to be ready and fully operational when needed. Valtra Connect monitors your tractors in real time to alert you of any potential issues before they become troublesome. By choosing to share telemetric data with your trusted service provider, you can arrange a suitable service time and prevent a possible greater issue later.
Your harvest made easy, reliable, more profitable, more ergonomic, and enjoyable
Valtra tractors are known for being robust – even in the harshest of conditions. Working in the hot and dry conditions of summer harvest, Valtra tractors offer fantastic features like automatic air conditioning, cooling seats, and cool boxes. Pneumatic Aires front axle suspension and the AutoComfort air-suspended cab offer a consistent ride all year round.
Our tractors’ robust design won’t let you down when you need it, and with Valtra Connect, you can prevent unscheduled downtime. Valtra’s easy-to-use smart farming technologies make it easy to create tasks, send them to the tractor, and easily switch between drivers during peak harvest season.
