Valtra and Ponsse host Paraguay and Finland Summit 2025 event
Finland and Paraguay strengthen bilateral relations in key sectors including agriculture, forestry, energy and motorsports.
On 31st of July 2025 renowned Finnish tractor manufacturer Valtra Inc, Ponsse Plc, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of cut-to-length forest machines, and Helmi, hosted delegations from Finland and Paraguay at Valtra’s brand home factory in Suolahti, Finland. The event aimed to increase investments and foster commercial relations between the two countries, focusing on key sectors like agriculture, forestry and clean energy. Delegates included Finland’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Sari Essayah, and the President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, as well as ministers and key business leaders from Paraguay and Finland.
During the event, Finland’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Sari Essayah, highlighted Finland’s strong bioeconomy knowhow and how this could benefit Paraguay, “We would be honoured to support Paraguay’s in advancing its bioeconomy in a manner that respects and aligns your country’s unique conditions, cultural values, and national priorities. Whether it is through sharing knowledge, building partnerships in education and innovation, or co-developing sustainable solutions, we see great potential in working together.”
President Peña acknowledged the need to raise awareness of the opportunities and potential that Paraguay offers, “I have no doubt that our visit - not only from the government delegation but mostly the private sector delegation - will accelerate that process. Paraguay is not only an end destination, Paraguay is the best platform to be in business in a region that is growing and now is responsible for the production of 60% of all the protein in the all the countries from South America. I think that the potential of the growth in coming years is great. Hopefully Valtra will expand its presence in Latin America and Paraguay will make a great opportunity for them to be a very efficient company.”
Valtra is one of the largest employers in Central Finland, and a key international exporter of tractors and precision farming technology. Valtra first established their Brazil factory in 1960 and is celebrating their 65th anniversary this year. Valtra is now one of the most popular brands in Latin America. Paraguay is one of the world’s agricultural powerhouses and Valtra has been present in Paraguay since 1983 with their distributor Rieder, currently holding the 3rd position on the market. Paraguay has three crop cycles and opportunity to improve yields with right technology – focus is now on high horsepower tractors from Finland, Valtra’s Momentum planter from Brazil, and AGCO’s PTx data & precision farming technology. “Valtra is well positioned for South-American precision ag growth and Paraguay potential for new and retrofit Ag technology is substantial.
