Valtra strengthens the defences of Portugal's forests

10/23/2019

Forest fire prevention in Portugal gains a major boost with tailored Valtra Unlimited forest work solutions.

Valtra and Portugal’s ICNF Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests have joined forces to upgrade the forest fire-fighting capabilities of 12 rural regions across the country. The collaboration was launched September 10th at an official event attended by Minister of Agriculture Luís Capoulas Santos.

The € 2.2 million collaboration involves each region receiving a custom-fitted Valtra T214 tractor especially tailored to meet the needs of fire departments. Supplied by Valtra’s Unlimited Studio, the 12 Valtras were painted in ICNF's distinctive yellow colours and rigorously equipped for forest work (specific tyres and rims, special fuel tank, polycarbonate cab windows and reversible driver's seat). The machines came pre-fitted with the three implements required by the specifications: breaker hammers and forestry cutters (Herkulis and FAE), as well as chippers with a Palms crane.

The communities will also benefit from working with Valtra in the form of other new fire prevention equipment such as tracked vehicles, rotating machines and hoisting machines.
