Operating a tractor is most effective when the machine obeys the driver easily and precisely, and the driving experience is easy! In Valtra's A and G Series, this matter has been properly addressed, and unnecessary complications have been eliminated! Valtra’s legendary shuttle lever also controls the parking brake. At Valtra, this feature is included in all power classes, and it makes starting off exceptionally easy: -just select the direction and with the same movement of the lever you release the parking brake: the C1 gear (suitable for most situations), is already available for use after starting the engine. Of course, it must be remembered that the A and G Series also have a separate handbrake lever in accordance with regulations for special situations.
Easy tractor gear shifting
We often go on the road for a test drive, but work tasks are more than transport driving. Valtra is ready for all of them! In Valtra tractors with more than a hundred horsepower, the gears are selected either automatically, depending on the load, or manually with the fingers of the right hand, ergonomically and without the use of force or sticks. Of course, the A Series HiTech 4 models have a sturdy "shift lever" where you can rest your hand without worrying - because the lever really doesn't move anywhere! All gears are easily selected with electronic rocker switches. In the G Series, the power transmission is also controlled from the armrest of the seat.
The powershift gears of both model series can be used both traditionally manually and fully automatically. The automatic transmission is always standard, and shifting is based on the engine revolutions in the A Series and G Series Auto2 mode. This can also be set according to the operator’s wishes in the G Series. The Auto1 mode of the G Series is always the so-called "factory setting" and it also considers the engine load: Auto1’s aim is to minimise fuel consumption. In the G Series, group changes can also be automated if necessary.
The well-known Valtra AutoTraction and more
Other functions of the power transmission, such as four-wheel drive or the differential lock, can also be operated manually with electric switches - or automatically. The powerful brakes also release the power transmission when desired, so that stopping and starting again can be done with just the linked brake pedals. This is called AutoTraction, and it is of course a familiar Valtra feature already from 25 years ago. Little by little, it has also been adopted by many competitors. On the other hand, a feature that is not readily found in other brands is the automatic engagement of the Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) for rear-wheel drive work or pre-programmable starting speeds forward and backwards. This facilitates easier loading work or headland turns.
New steering for improved tractor driving
The tilt of the steering wheel can, of course, be adjusted with the pedal, and the A Series also has a new LS steering valve, making the steering even lighter. The operating switches of the three point linkage are placed in the natural resting place of the right hand, either in the control armrest (as with the fifth generation G Series) or on the right side panel at the level of the armrest (as in the 5th generation A Series).
Tractor driving tests - Bedre Gårdsdrift, Koneviesti, and Profi results
In their January 2025 issue, the well-known Norwegian machine magazine Bedre Gårdsdrift tested the Valtra G135 Versu model undertaking different tasks. The test drivers quickly began to prefer using the automatic transmission because it simply made it easier to drive in all jobs. The constant speed adjustment was also found to be natural to use and worked well in connection with it the automatic mode. Subscribers can read the full story here: Bedre Gårdsdrift
A similar result had already been obtained in an earlier test jointly carried out by well-respected Nordic magazines, in which a Valtra G115 Active model was compared with six other tractors of the same power class. The power transmission was considered good, the automation made work easier, and the user could also adjust the gearbox to their liking according to the work tasks.
