Better Lights for Tractors in the 135-200 HP Class

The Valtra N175 Direct is Valtra's internationally best-selling model by far. It is particularly popular in Norway, the Valtra N175, and its predecessor N174, have been the country's best-selling tractor models since their introduction. In Valtra's home country of Finland, the situation is very similar. The N174  and 175 have been the best-selling models throughout the 2020s. Before that, the Valtra T174e held the lead. However, with the T Series, demand has been divided among several models in recent years, as larger power classes have become more popular. As a result, the N175 has taken the lead among individual models.

Of course, staying at the top requires continuous development: the latest innovation has been changing the side lights and indicators to a V-shape: These LED lights, which follow Valtra's iconic design, are already familiar from the Q and S Series tractors. Now, the 135-250 hp class, (i.e. the N and T Series), has also received these good-looking lights that also increase visibity to other road users.

The N Series has a four-cylinder  AGCO Power engine and the T Series is powered by its big brother, a six-cylinder engine. One frequently asked question is: which of the almost equally powerful tractors should you choose: the compact N175 or the slightly larger T175? The respected Finnish and Norwegian agricultural machinery magazines Bedre Gårdsdrift and Koneviesti investigated this last year in Oppdal, Norway:

With a snow blower (a typical implement in Nordics), the test drivers felt that the N175D was more efficient as the full benefit is gained from the additional power of the sigma-power when using the power take-off. When driving with a trailer on the steep hills of Norway, the six-cylinder tractor's better engine braking was beneficial on the descent. On the uphill, the tractors were very equal. The T Series is almost a ton heavier, and when driving in eco mode, fuel consumption per transferred ton of load was lower than in the N Series. The conclusion from the week's test drives was that the N175's 4.9-liter four-cylinder engine proved to be a torque powerhouse, especially when using the power take-off. The T175, on the other hand, is more stable, with heavy machinery and does not necessarily require the use of additional weights like the N Series.

So, the purpose of use here also determines the choice of tractor. Whichever tractor concept is chosen, there are similar options for both. Both powershift and continuously variable transmissions (CVT) are available, and both have the most efficient hydraulics in their size class with separate engine and transmission oils.

As our title suggests, there are also efficient lights for all jobs. All work lights are LED lights, and the light output is available according to need. With the Unlimited lights, users can even choose the colour temperature they want from warm yellow 2700K to cold blue 6500K. This is to cope with the very different needs caused by seasonal changes, for example in municipal work. The new designed side lights and indicators are now on all new N and T Series tractors!
